Along came Timmy . . . .
Timmy

Timmy is approximately 14 years old.  Timmy came from a neglectful and abusive home situation.  A concerned neighbor called the Department of Animal Regulation and reported his owner for animal abuse.

His owner was sent to jail and Timmy went to the Shelter.  He was bailed out of the shelter by a Silky Terrier Rescuer who later transferred him to me.  He was misidentified as a Silky Terrier because he had been clipped down completely.   He had to be clipped down because he was infested with fleas and had mats to the skin when he was received by the shelter.  He also had numerous raw spots and was scratching  almost continuously.  I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed as having an airborne allergy.  He was given appropriate medications and started to get better almost immediately.  His mental wounds however, took a great deal longer to heal.  He was very shy and afraid.  When I first got him home, I had to hold him on my lap and give him comforting rubs under his chin and on his neck.  He was afraid to make eye contact with me or anyone else for about a month.  He was extremely 'hand-shy' and it became obvious that he had been beaten.  He didn't even know how to play.  He was just a lost little soul.

I tried for several months to find him a home but since he's an older male, with the beginnings of Cataracts, and is structurally built like a little pot-belly pig, no one wanted him.  Any good breeder can look at him and find hundreds of faults.  But he only needs to stay with you for a week until you can find an equal number of positive traits.  He's a very sweet boy and has now become "Mr. Velcro Dog".  I finally gave up looking for a home for him and have made him part of my family.

I've had Timmy now for almost 2 years.  I've never once regretted keeping this boy.  Timmy has come a long way since the days he had so much mental baggage to carry.  He has now learned how to play and loves his new playmates.  He has been accepted by all my other Yorkies and is a very happy little dog now.
